1. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says it would be a sad day for America if opponents stop plans for a proposed mosque near the World Trade Center site. Bloomberg is among a few outspoken officials supporting the construction. On Friday, President Barack Obama supported the right of the developers to build the mosque two blocks from Ground Zero.

 

2. A Boston city councilor wants an investigation of the jail where a former medical student, awaiting trial in the death of a Craigslist masseuse, apparently committed suicide. According to the Boston Harold, Philip Markoff used a pen to cut arteries. He was discovered dead alone in his cell Sunday morning.

 

3. There is more rain pounding the camps housing Pakistan's flood survivors. About 1/5 of the country and nearly the size of California has been affected by record floods. The scale of the disaster has raised concerns they could destabilize the country.

 

4. The California Highway Patrol says Mel Gibson wasn't hurt when he crashed his sports car into a hillside in Malibu. The agency says his Maserati careened off a road Sunday evening. Authorities don't think alcohol was involved.
