1. Chinese authorities say more than 40 people are dead and dozens more injured after a jet overshot a runway and burst into flames. The pilots ran into heavy fog as they tried to land. The Henan Airline's plane was carrying nearly 100 passengers and crew.

2. Sales of previously occupied homes plunged last month to the lowest level in 15 years. That's despite the lowest mortgage rates in decades and bargain prices in many areas. Sharp declines were recorded in all regions of the country.

3. Authorities say a runaway gravel truck that fell onto a California home killed a couple and their seven-year-old son. The truck was hauling some 26 tons of gravel when it careened off the highway. Officials say it lost its brakes.

4. And Los Angeles police have arrested a man at the home of Paris Hilton. The socialite says she woke up around 6:30 in the morning when he tried to break in, carrying two big new knives.
