1. New foreclosure data shows lenders took back more homes in August than in any month since the start of the US mortgage crisis three years ago. Realty Trac says more than 95,000 homes were repossessed, that's a 25% increase from the same time last year and a 3% from July.

 

2. Sarah Palin says it's time for the Republican Party to put aside its differences and capitalize on a series of victories by Tea Party-backed candidates. Palin had backed Christine O'Donnell who won the Republican nomination in Delaware Senatorial primary. Some Republican leaders had said that O'Donnell had no shot winning the general election.

 

3. Forecasters say Hurricane Igor's greatest threat to the US coast will be life-threatening rip currents. Igor remains a Category 4 storm with 135-mile-an-hour winds. The storm remains well out to sea but continues to track towards Bermuda. Hurricane Julia is a Category 3 storm and is also well out in the Atlantic.

 

4. Wild weather across the Australian state of Tasmania has left thousands of homes without power. Heavy snow and icy conditions blanketed the area and it's expected to ease over the next few days.
