1. A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake off western Indonesia has triggered a tsunami, killing at least 23 people. More than 160 remain missing. The head of the Health Ministry crisis center says a ten-foot-high wave washed away hundreds of homes in two coastal villages.

 

2. Authorities are considering charges for three boys suspected of being in a car that ran a red light, struck and killed a pedestrian, then broadsided a school bus. Police say the boys attempted to flee on foot. The driver of the bus was seriously hurt and 18 students were hospitalized.

 

3. The Santa Barbara County coroner says it's likely a great white shark was responsible for killing a body boarder last week. The coroner's office made the announcement Monday after conferring with a shark expert. It's believed the shark was about 18 feet long and weighed up to 4,000 pounds.

 

4. Jury selection starts today in the corruption trial of former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. DeLay is charged with illegally funneling corporate money to help elect Republicans to the Texas Legislature. The 63-year-old is charged with two crimes. If convicted, he could face between two years to life in prison.
