China produces and exports half of world's solar panels. It's also the world's biggest greenhouse gas emitter. But the Chinese government says it wants to change, so it's rolling out a slew of new enviromental policies and plans to produce 15% of its energy from renewable sources by 2020, from less than 9% in 2009. To show off its rapidly expanding renewable energy market, China is hosting its international green industry expo in Beijing. Two hundred countries from around world and China have their products and ideas on display. All hoping to get a piece of what is now seen by many as the biggest potential market for new energy products. Water Kaperlin is Asian director for the Biogas Forum Gicon Bioenergy which is working on several new projects in China.
The government you know only in China is really on the right way, they have decided to use a lot of bio-methane now from the agriculture. Kaperlin added that his company is looking to China above any other for growth. Meanwhile, at home, renewable energy installation is already booming. By 2020, China says it wants to have 10 times the amount of wind capacity it had in 2009.And China's solar capacity is expected to increase over 100 times by 2020. Good news for home-grown companies, said Xu Hongjin of Yingli Solar. Under the government's extremely positive encouragement of China's solar energy market, I think that very soon, China will be the same as Europe and America--a big solar power using country. These manufacturers will be watching the upcoming UN climate change conference closely, to see whether a new international pact to fight global warming can be reached, they say what's good for the environment, will be good for business.
