1. President Obama will deliver his second State of the Union address tonight, proposing new spending in areas such as education, innovation and infrastructure, while also calling for responsible spending cuts. Some Democrats and Republicans may break partisan tradition and sit beside one another in the House.

 

2. Airline profits are soaring. New government forecasts show the eight biggest US airlines will make it combined five billion dollars in profit this year and a little more next year. Analysts say the airlines have cut flights and fuel costs and boosted fares and fees.

 

3. An explosion on a bus in the Philippine capital Manila has killed four people and left at least 14 hurt. Officials there say a bomb was likely responsible for the blast. The Philippines’ President has promised a full investigation.

 

4. And there is a new resident Down Under. A baby western lowland gorilla is making her debut at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo. Her name is Kipenzi, which means the precious one in Swahili.
