[00:34.44]A man fired his rifle just as Kino attacked.
[00:39.28]Kino then took the man's rifle
[00:41.75]and killed the other men.
[00:43.88]But suddenly everything went away quiet
[00:47.28]and Kino knew that something was wrong.
[00:50.80]He went back to the cave.The baby was dead!
[00:55.66]He had been hit by the first rifle shot,
[00:59.27]Kino and Juana walked back
[01:01.19]to the town carring the body of their dead baby
[01:04.37]They walked slowly.
[01:07.36]The people came out to meet them
[01:09.64]but Kino and Juana ignored everybody.
[01:13.29]They walked towards the sea.
[01:15.83]Kino took out the pearl.
[01:17.98]It was grey and ugly,
[01:20.30]and in the pearl he could see evil faces.
[01:24.70]He offered the pearl to Juana
[01:26.51]but she said softly:"No, you."
[01:31.68]Kino took the pearl and threw it into the water
[01:35.54]It dropped to the bottom
[01:36.87]and settled near some plants.
[01:39.61]A crab climbed over it
[01:42.51]and it was covered with sand.
[01:44.91]The pearl had disappeared.
