1. A wildfire in Arizona is now the State's third largest ever. Officials say the blaze covers about 287 square miles and is expected to grow larger. Some 1,300 firefighters, some from as far away as New York, are working the wildfire.

 

2. Authorities say more E.coli cases are likely despite the fact that the source of contaminated vegetables has likely been found. Vegetable sprouts from an organic farm in northern Germany are suspected of causing the outbreak that killed 22 and sickened more than 2,200. The German farm has been shut down and all its produce has been recalled.

 

3. Before retiring at the end of the month, Defense Secretary Robert Gates is in Afghanistan, saying a final farewell to front-line US troops. One of Gates' last major issues is recommending to President Barack Obama how to begin and carry out a US troop withdrawal starting in July.

 

4. A leftist former army officer with questionable human rights credentials has narrowly won Peru's presidency. Ollanta Humala won a run-off election after softening his radical image which had led to an election defeat five years earlier.
