1. High winds and dry conditions have helped spread what's now the third-largest wildfire in Arizona history. Thousands of people are believed to have already evacuated the mountains of eastern Arizona and hundreds more have been warned to be ready.

 

2. In southwest Iowa, piles of sandbags have been placed on a faltering levee to help contain floodwaters from the Missouri River. One fire official said that if the levee fails, Hamburg, Iowa could be under as much as eight feet of water for a month or more.

 

3. Police say evidence in the case of a missing Northern California nursing student points to homicide. Twenty-six-year-old Michelle Le was last seen alive on May 27th. Police say a forensic examination of her car and other evidence lead them to believe she was killed.

 

4. The International Air Transport Association has unveiled plans for an airport security system intended to reduce check-in time. The group says the new system would feature iris scanners and information chips inside passports. The system should be in place within five years.
