Two new opinion polls give opposing results on who voters want to lead the Federal Liberal Party. The latest Newspoll puts the Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull out in front with 32 percent, compared to 24 percent who prefer the shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey. But the Nielsen poll shows Mr. Hockey has slightly more support than Mr. Turnbull.

In Iraq, at least 19 people have been killed in a spate of bombings in the city of Ramadi, west of Baghdad. Another 80 people were injured. The bombers targeted Ramadi's police headquarters and a major hospital.

Pope Benedict has created five new saints. They come from Spain, France, Poland and Belgium. The Belgian man, known as Father Damian, worked on a remote island in Hawaii, looking after people suffering from leprosy. It was during the time when victims of the disease were quarantined in remote places.

And organizers have hailed this year's Bathurst 1000 a great success. More than 50,000 people watched Holden's Garth Tander and Will Davison take the title at Mount Panorama. It is the first time a Holden team has won the race since the death of Holden legend Peter Brock in 2006.
