A 22-year-old woman will face court today charged with the manslaughter of the former Socceroo Ian Gray. The 46-year-old former Australian soccer player was found in his Sydney apartment on Monday night. Investigators arrested a 22-year-old at a Kings Cross brothel yesterday. The woman has also been charged with supplying drugs and stealing. She’s been refused bail.

 

Toyota may be forced to recall the world’s top-selling car, the Corolla. The Japanese carmaker is investigating a possible defect in the car’s power steering. The company’s president has indicated he won’t bow to pressure to appear before US Congressional hearings next week. The US car safety watchdog has ordered a probe into whether Toyota responded to its safety problems quickly enough.

 

The Federal Government’s come under fire for its solar panel rebate scheme. The Clean Energy Council says poorly installed panels in up to 2,000 homes could spark electrical fires. There are also concerns that panels imported under the scheme may not meet Australian standards.

 

And a BBC television presenter has been arrested on suspicion of murder after he admitted killing his lover who was dying of AIDS. On a documentary broadcast this week, Ray Gosling confessed that he smothered his partner to end his suffering.
