Britain's expelled an Israeli diplomat over the use of forged UK passports in the murder of a top Hamas commander. Despite Israeli denials, the British foreign minister says there’s compelling evidence to suggest the Mossad spy agency was involved in killing Mahmoud al-Mabhouh at a Dubai hotel in January. Fake Australian passports were also used in the murder plot.

 

The Prime Minister will meet the West Australian Premier in Perth today to try to convince him to sign up to the hospitals funding plan. Colin Barnett’s already indicated he doesn't want to hand over a third of his state's (states')GST.

 

The Australian Rio Tinto executive Stern Hu's bribery and spying trial continues in Shanghai today without Australian consular officials present. Evidence will be presented that Hu and three other Rio Tinto executives offered bribes in return for the secrets of Chinese steel companies. Australian diplomats have now been locked out of the trial.

 

And the US President Barack Obama has signed his landmark health care bill into law in a ceremony at the White House. The new law will eventually extend health insurance cover to about 32 million Americans who have none. Mr Obama’s hailed the legislation as historic.
