Taking a look at the satellite image first, and thick cloud crossing southern WA ahead of an intense low is generating showers and thunderstorms. Patchy cloud in the northern tropics in a trough is also bringing showers and clouds bringing showers off the coast of New South Wales.

To the states now, and Queensland can expect isolated falls over the northeast tropics and scattered showers along the coast, south of Fraser Island. Light rain should develop over the southwest late in the day.

Patchy rain developing in far western New South Wales, scattered showers on the North Coast, mostly fine elsewhere.

Mostly fine and sunny for Victoria with early frost and fog patches in the east. Patchy rain developing in the west later in the day. Isolated showers developing above the north and east coast of Tasmania. Fine elsewhere after early frost and fog.

In South Australia patchy rain and possible thunder in the far west reaching Adelaide at about midday and extending through the evening.

There should be isolated thunderstorms in the southwest with showers scattered above the Kimberley and Pilbara regions.

And in the Northern Territory, one or two storms near the west coast of the Top End and early drizzle in the southwest followed by light storms.

Looking ahead for the capitals, light rain is expected for Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Canberra. It should be fine for Hobart and Darwin. Showers easing in Adelaide and rain for Perth.
