Thick cloud is swarming over the southeast of the country around an intensifying low, generating heavy rain. Scattered cloud over western Victoria and South Australia is bringing showers. Mostly clear elsewhere.

To the state forecasts now, and Queensland should see some morning drizzle in the southeast. Isolated showers over the southern interior in the afternoon and showers also over the northern tropics.

Rain across much of eastern New South Wales with heavy falls likely on parts of the southern coast. Isolated showers in the west. Fine along the far north coast.

Locally, heavy falls for southeast Victoria with the flood watch in place for East Gippsland. Scattered showers in remaining southern areas.

Rain with possible thunder is expected in northeast Tasmania, but will ease during the day. Light falls elsewhere clearing early.

In South Australia, scattered showers, southeast of Port Lincoln with isolated showers over remaining parts of the agricultural area. Early fog patches in the west.

Showers are extending through the southwest of WA, and into adjacent districts during the afternoon and evening. Mostly fine elsewhere.

And in the Northern Territory, isolated falls contracting north over the Top End. Fine and sunny in the south.

And now looking ahead for the capital cities, there should be showers for Sydney and Canberra. Fine for Brisbane, Melbourne and Hobart. Fine also for Adelaide and Darwin.
