A poll shows that the Rudd Government would lose in an election if it was held today. The Nelson poll conducted for Fairfax, shows the Coalition leads Labor on a two-party preferred basis by 53% to 47%. That's an increase of three percentage points for the Coalition in a month.

 

Australian Federal Police are investigating the internet giant Google over alleged privacy breaches. It's alleged that workers unlawfully collected information from wireless networks while taking photos for its Street View program. Google says it mistakenly collected the data. But the Government says the company may have breached the Telecommunications Interception Act.

 

Israel's ambassador to the United States says his country will reject a proposed international commission to investigate its deadly raid on a Gaza aid flotilla. Israel's deporting another 19 activists from an Irish-owned boat that was prevented from breaking the blockade at the weekend.

 

Tornadoes and storms have swept across the US Midwest, killing five people in Ohio and Michigan. At least 50 homes were destroyed and scores more were have damaged. Authorities in northwest Ohio are still searching through homes and it's unclear whether anyone else at this stage is missing.

 

And the Government will subsidize the insurance of private practice midwives from today. And to the new laws, pregnant women will also have the costs of midwifery services covered by Medicare from November.
