Prime Minister Julia Gillard is today expected to announce her new-look Cabinet. Ms Gillard has spoken to dumped PM Kevin Rudd about his future in Parliament. She may reallocate her old portfolios to existing Cabinet members.

Julia Gillard's rise to the top has helped boost Labor's primary support according to the latest Newspoll. Support for Labor is up seven points to 42 per cent. Labor has an election winning lead over the Coalition 53 to 47 per cent.

Hundreds of people turned up at Sydney airport last night to farewell Islamic cleric Sheikh Mansour Leghaei who lost his fight against deportation. The Sheikh was ordered to return to Iran because he was declared a security risk. He's lived in Australia for 16 years and says his deportation is unjustified. ASIO (Australian Security Intelligence Organisation) has refused to say why he is a risk. Dr Leghaei left with his wife and daughter; his three sons will remain in the country.

New South Wales Police are investigating the suspected double murder of two men in Newcastle overnight. They are looking for the driver of a white utility seen in the area at the time. The police say two men, aged 22 and 30, were found dead outside a home in Mayfield, just after six o'clock last night. Both had gunshot wounds.
