 It's a disappointing day for Australian soccer fans. Australia's bid to host the 2022 World Cup soccer tournament has been unsuccessful. The Gulf state of Qatar has been awarded the tournament after a secret ballot of FIFA's executive members. Russia has been chosen to host the 2018 tournament, beating the favourite there -- England. 

 
At least 40 people have been killed by a forest fire that's been raging out of control near the northern Israeli city of Haifa. The dead are all believed to be prison guards who are on a bus caught in the inferno. Hundreds of people have been evacuated from the Carmel Mountains. 
 
Swedish authorities have issued a fresh arrest warrant for WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. A procedural error with the first warrant meant it couldn't be applied in Britain, where Mr Assange is believed to be living. The detention order concerns alleged sexual crimes during a visit to Sweden in August. Mr Assange has not been charged, and he denies the allegations.
 
The former Prime Minister Paul Keating is urging the Government to speed up its plan to boost superannuation savings. The Government wants to use revenue from its mining tax to lift the super rate from 9 to 12 per cent by 2019. 
 
And Australia's largest poultry manufacturer, Baiada, has been cited by WorkSafe Victoria for the death of a worker. In August, 34-year-old Sarel Singh was killed while cleaning fast-moving machinery. A report into the death found Baiada breached occupational health and safety laws by not controlling risks at the plant.
