 Hundreds of people have fled to higher ground to escape rising waters in New South Wales. There are 13 floodwaters through rivers right across the state. A thousand people were evacuated in Coonamble, where the Castlereagh River is likely to break its levee. In Wagga, residents are waiting to see if the Murrumbidgee River will reach its predicted peak of 10 metres. 

 
The Coalition wants to know if the Prime Minister Julia Gillard shares her predecessor's view on the use of force against China. A leaked diplomatic cable says Kevin Rudd told the US secretary of state to be prepared to use force against China if everything goes wrong. The WikiLeaks cable is a summary of a meeting between Mr Rudd and Hillary Clinton held in March last year. 
 
The Federal Government is poised to announce a plan to rein in the big four banks. That's being shown at Cabinet today and the ABC understands the Treasurer Wayne Swan will publicly reveal the new policy at the end of the week. 
 
Two teenage boys have been arrested on suspicion of starting Israel’s deadly forest fires. Israel says it's brought the fire in the north of the country under control. At least 41 people died in those fires. 
 
The Egyptian Coast Guard is searching for a shark that killed a woman near the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh. A separate attack early last week injured three Russians and one Ukrainian tourist. Authorities had reopened the waters after saying they captured the sharks responsible for the earlier attack.
