Thick cloud over central Australia around Ex-Tropical Cyclone Yasi is causing heavy rain and storms. A cloud band across southern New South Wales and eastern Victoria is bringing rain which is easing.

A closer look at the states now:

Isolated storms and showers are spreading throughout Queensland, especially along the Capricornia and Wide Bay coasts.

New South Wales can expect scattered to widespread showers spreading to the northeast, isolated thunderstorms in the central districts.

Scattered showers in the east and south of Victoria becoming isolated, then clear in late afternoon.

Tasmania can expect morning thunderstorms about the west coast and showers along the south, mainly fine elsewhere.

Heavy falls and possible flash flooding over the Pastoral and Flinders districts. Clear and dry over the remainder of South Australia.

Storms in the Pilbara and Kimberley districts in WA. Damaging winds are expected in Perth.

And a severe weather warning is current for the Alice Springs district, as Ex-Tropical Cyclone Yasi passes just to the south of Alice Springs, expects squally winds and heavy rain to extend across southern parts of the territory. Storms also across the tropics.
