Thick cloud over the Queensland tropics is causing severe weather. Cloud and moisture over the Northern Territory border is causing thundery rain. Cloud over the southeast is bringing isolated light showers along the coast.

Around the states now:

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will persist over the Queensland tropics. Areas of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms over the far west will ease.

To New South Wales, and cloudy with isolated showers on the north coast and adjacent ranges. Partly cloudy for the remainder of the coast. Mostly sunny elsewhere.

A fine day for Victoria today. There'll be some moderate northeasterly winds and fresh afternoon coastal sea breezes along the Gippsland coast.

Mostly fine although a little cold to start with in Tasmania with mild winds and isolated frost patches. A mild day about the coasts, tending warm inland.

To South Australia now, isolated showers in the far north. Elsewhere, it'll be mostly clear with warm, dry easterlies.

In the west, isolated thunderstorms and showers over the Kimberley in the afternoon and evening will bring moderate to heavy falls. Showers and thunderstorms for the Eucla region, easing to showers in the afternoon.

And in the Northern Territory, monsoonal showers and storms in the north and east. Dry and warm in the southwest.

Looking ahead to Monday:
