 There a bomb has ripped through a crowded bus stop in Jerusalem, killing at least one person and injuring more than 30 others. Authorities said the bomb was hidden in a bag at the side of the road near the bus station. It's the first terror attack in Jerusalem in seven years, and police have blamed Palestinian militants for the blast.

 
In Syria, security forces have opened fire on anti-government protesters at a mosque in the city of Deraa. At least five people died and scores were injured. Police also attacked mourners at the funeral of two people killed during an earlier protest.
 
Screen legend Elizabeth Taylor has died of heart failure, aged 79. She began her film career at the age of 12 in National Velvet. The double Oscar winner was at her peak in the 1950s and 60s with a string of memorable films including Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Cleopatra.
 
Tony Abbott is distancing himself from the abusive language used at yesterday's anti-carbon tax rally in Canberra. Protesters branded Prime Minister Julia Gillard a liar, some of them hurling abuse and waving derogatory placards. The Opposition leader addressed the crowd but says he doesn't endorse abusive or hurtful language.
 
And Federal Police have charged two of the asylum seekers who escaped from the Christmas Island detention centre. They were among a group of detainees who broke out during a week of riots and protests at the centre.
