 Villawood violence has erupted at the detention centre. There, detainees have set fire to several buildings, and a gas cylinder has exploded. Fire crews are trying to fight the blaze and have been pelted with roof tiles by the protesters.

 
A South Australian MP has been arrested and charged with child pornography offences. The MP who can't be named was arrested at his Adelaide home last night. He was nabbed as part of a police operation targeting Internet child pornography. He's been released on bail and will face court next month.
 
Julia Gillard has arrived in Tokyo with a special message of condolence to the Japanese people. The Prime Minister will meet the Japanese emperor today. She'll also hold talks with Japan's prime minister and business leaders to discuss trade and defence ties before visiting some of the affected areas on Saturday.
 
Tony Abbott is hoping to trump the Prime Minister on mental health funding ahead of next month's budget. The Opposition leader will use a speech in Sydney today to announce $430 million worth of mental health initiatives. That's on top of the $1.5 billion he'd committed at last year's election.
 
And discount airline Tiger may be grounded because of serious safety and maintenance breaches. News Limited is reporting the Civil Aviation Safety Authority has issued the airline with a show cause notice. It's seeking urgent answers to concerns about the standard of pilot training and shortcuts in maintenance.
