 Virgin will resume limited services from Melbourne, Tasmania and New Zealand in about half an hour’s time with Qantas is expected to recommence its flights from 10:00 this morning. Jetstar also hopes to get some of its planes back in the air this morning. But Tiger has still cancelled all of its flights today. The airlines had to cancel hundreds of flights because of a volcanic ash cloud drifting across from Chile. 

 
High Court judge Susan Kiefel has received the highest honour in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours list just as Kiefel is the only person to be made a Companion of the Order of Australia. Three hundred and seventy-six people have been recognised in this year’s list. 
 
Police will decide this morning whether to continue their search for two men who were thrown from a boat on the Hawkesbury River north of Sydney yesterday. The search for a 14-year-old girl who went missing on Lake Macquarie in a similar accident on Saturday has also been suspended. 
 
Syrian troops have stormed the northern town of Jisr al-Shughour. Syrian state TV has reported fierce fighting between soldiers and armed gunmen. Much of the town is deserted after many of its residents fled into Turkey ahead of the planned assault. 
 
And heavy fighting is continuing across large parts of western Libya. Thirteen people have died after rebels launched a new offensive on the port city of Zawiyah after a two-month lull. Battles are still raging in several other towns as the rebels take advantage of an increase in NATO air strikes.
