Australia's arts community is paying tribute to well-known actor David Ngoombujarra who died on the weekend. The 44-year-old was found in a park in Fremantle on Sunday and was pronounced dead at Fremantle Hospital. He was best known for his roles in the films of Rabbit-Proof Fence, Australia and Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles. A member of the Stolen Generation, he won AFIs for his roles in Blackfellas, Black and White and The Circuit.

The ABC has started work on a comedy mini-series called At Home With Julia about the Prime Minister's relationship with her de facto husband Tim Mathieson. The series stars Amanda Bishop as Ms Gillard and Phil Lloyd as Mr Mathieson. Production on the four half-hour episodes begins this week, with the shows to air later this year. Ms Gillard says she's not had any input into the series, but she considers Bishop to be very funny.

And taxpayers in Victoria paid up to $650,000 for talk show host Oprah Winfrey to take 92 guests on a three-day tour of Melbourne. Receipts released under Freedom of Information laws show Oprah was farewell from Melbourne with the dinner costing more than $100,000. It's reported to have cost $5 million to bring over the talk show host and her audience. But tourism analysts say the exposure from the trip was more than worth the cost.

And that's the latest in the arts and entertainment.
