A developing low and front is generating squally showers and isolated thunderstorms through the south and east. While patchy cloud over southern New South Wales triggers isolated showers there.

And over the weekend, it's expected to track east across the Tasman Sea, generating strong winds and showers over eastern New South Wales and Victoria while another low brings scattered showers to southwestern WA.

Taking a look around the states.

In Queensland, it should be fine over most of the state apart from isolated showers and storms in the southern border and in the far northeast tropics.

In New South Wales, there will be isolated showers over most of the state with the chance of thunderstorms in the far east.

Victoria will see more rain, too, with morning showers in the south and scattered showers with local hail over the southern and mountain districts.

It will also be west through most of Tasmania, scattered showers are expected across the state.

South Australia can also expect rain in most parts with the chance of local hail and thunderstorms about the southeast coast.

In Western Australia, there will be isolated showers and storms about the south coast and southern inland with isolated showers about the western Pilbara.

And those showers should extend across to the Northern Territory's Top End.

Looking ahead to Sunday. Showers for Sydney, Perth and Darwin. Mostly fine in the other capitals.
