Unicaja Malaga sacks coach Mateo(在线收听

MADRID, March 20 (Xinhua) -- Spanish ACB basketball side Unicaja Malaga had sacked coach Chus Mateo as a result of his team's disastrous run of recent results, local media reported Tuesday.

He left the club after little more than a year in charge, after having signed for Unicaja in January 2011.
Mateo was sacked late on Monday following 15 defeats from the last 16 games in the Endesa ACB League and also in the EuroLeague where they finished bottom of their group in the Top-16.
Meanwhile in the Endesa-ACB, Unicaja have slipped from third place, behind Regal Barcelona and Real Madrid, to 10th place in the table and they currently sit outside of the play off zone with 13 wins from 25 matches.
Former assistant coach, Paco Aurioles, who has also coached Unicaja's junior side replaces Mateo in the role for the time being.
Aurioles has been given the post on a provisional basis and it remains to be seen whether or not the club will continue with Aurioles until the end of the current campaign or look to sign another permanent coach.
