1.Lay Over 过夜，短暂停留
一些人去旅游，并不喜欢参加旅行团 ( Tour package )，原因是旅行社的行程都是满满当当走马观花似的，若你想在某地方多逗留一会都很困难，故此很多游客 ( Tourist )会选择自由行（Free walker），可以随时在喜欢的地点过夜，作短暂停留，Lay over 就是「过夜留宿」的意思。
例：The passengers will lay over in Shanghai for 2 hours before completing the journey to Sydney.在飞往悉尼前，乘客们将在上海停留两个小时。"
其实，我们去旅行时作短暂停留也是好事，人总要有休息的时候，Lay over 可以令你养精蓄锐 ( Recharge your batteries )。记住：休息是为了走更长的路！
2.Stop over 过夜 ( to spend the night ) 或作短暂停留
例：I asked my mother if I could stop over at Annie’s house last night.
我问母亲可否让我在 Annie的家过夜。
We stopped over in a hotel last night.
昨晚我们在旅馆住了一夜。
