The European commission says while Spain has not requested a bailout, it has the capacity to help if such request was made, there are reports the request could come as early as this weekend, saying EU finance ministers are set to hold a conference call to discuss an aid package. Spain would be the biggest country to seek helps since the Euro Zone's debt crisis began.
 
St George is the latest bank to move on interest rate, cutting its standard variable rate by 18 basis points, it was the fifth local bank to move yesterday following the reserve bank's decision this week to cut the cash rate by 25 basis points. ANZ is the only bank to pass on the full rate to its customers.
