The US government says the unemployment rate has fallen below 8 percent. It's lowest level in almost four years. The latest numbers also show that US economy added 114,000 jobs in September, beating expectations. Analysts say the figures are expected to give a boost to President Barack Obama's campaign for re-election.
 
 
The world's largest platinum producer Anglo American Platinum has sacked 12,000 South African workers who's been on an unofficial strike for past three weeks. The firm says the workers have been dismissed for failure to attend disciplinary hearings. The striking workers have been demanding better working conditions and pay. South Africa's mining sector has been hit by a wave of wild cat strikes during which a number of miners and mine officials have been killed.
