 When the markets in Europe closed a couple of hours ago, London's FTSE 100 was down 21 points, while the Dax and Euro were also down 57 and 32 points respectively. In the US, trading comes to a close shortly and the Dow Jones is down 224 points, while the S&P 500 is down 26 points. The Nasdaq closed down 70 points.

There have been more violence protests in Greece against the savage spending cuts. That are part of the economi bailout package. With the nation gripped by a general strike, over 20,000 protesters took over the streets of Athens after wages and government benefits were slashed. The protest coincides with the EU leaders' meeting in Brussels.
 
 
China's economy has slowed for a 7th quarter amid problems in Europe and the United States, hurting demand for its goods. The annual growth rate was down 0.2% in the third quarter to 7.4%. But some data shows there are signs the world's second biggest economy is stabilizing and rebounding.
