 The federeal government's Royal Commission into child abuse could take several years to complete. Prime minister Julia Gillard announced the wide range inquiry late yesterday will investigate the way institutions like churchs and schools have handled abuse cases.

 
Sydney detectives have charged a former Catholic teacher and a Catholic brother with child sex offenses. Dating back more than 25 years. They say the incidents involved two 13-year-old boys in 1987 and an 8-year-old gilr in 1985.
 
Two former New South Wales labor premiers Nathan Rees and Morris Iemma will today give an evidence to a corruption inquiry. The ICAC hearing is investigating the granting of lucrative coal licenses by the former mining minister Ian Macdonald. It's heard allegations another former minister Eddie Obeid made massive profits from inside knowledge.
 
Tony Abbott's approval rating has dropped to its lowest level since he became Opposition leader. The latest newspoll shows just 27% of voters are happy with the way he is doing his job. The Opposition still leads the government 51% to 49% in the two-party-preferred vote.
 
The BBC's head of news and her deputy have stepped aside, pending an inquiry the child abuse sex abuse claims against the late Jimmy Saville. It follows the resignation of the BBC's director general George Entwistle. He quitted after a report wrongly accused a former British politician of being involved in child sex abuse.
