 The National Assessment Program in Australian schools has failed to score highly in a survey of more than 8,000 teachers. More than half say they now spend more time teaching for the Naplan test and less time on face-to-face learning.

The Federal Opposition will continue to press the Prime Mnister on the AWU slush fund scandal when parliament resumes today. Ms Gillard's former boyfriend and disgraced Union official Bruce Wilson has spoken out for the first time. He says Ms Gillard had no knowledge of any fraud connected to a slush fund she helped set up in the 1990s.
 
 
 
The deadline for submissions closes today for the(口误) on the terms of reference for the Royal Commission on child sexual abuse. The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference wants the inquiry to focus on preventing future abuse, promoting healing for victims and identifying systemic failures.
 
 
 
The man accused of murdering Sunshine Coast teenager Daniel Morcombe is due to face a committal hearing in Brisbane today. Forty-two-year-old Brett Peter Cowan is accused of taking Daniel while he waited for a bus in December, 2003. The hearing is expected to last two weeks.
