A group of scientists are going into battle against parents who refuse to have their children immunized. There's been a six-fold increase in the number of the so-called vaccine objectors. But the Australian Academy of Science says immunization remains the most effective protection against disease.

 

 

 

The Federal Opposition will continue to press the Prime Mnister on the AWU slush fund scandal when parliament resumes today. Ms Gillard's former boyfriend and disgraced Union official Bruce Wilson has spoken out for the first time. He says Ms Gillard had no knowledge of any fraud connected to a slush fund she helped set up in the 1990s.

The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference wants the inquiry to focus on preventing future abuse, promoting healing for victims and identifying systemic failures.

 

 

 

The man accused of murdering Sunshine Coast teenager Daniel Morcombe is due to face a committal hearing in Brisbane today. Forty-two-year-old Brett Peter Cowan is accused of taking Daniel while he waited for a bus in December, 2003. The hearing is expected to last two weeks.
