The President of Central African Republic is consolidating military power after dismissing his own son as acting defense minister, along with his army chief of staff.

President Francois Bozize says that he is taking over the position held by his son as rebels seized 10 towns and reached within striking distance from the capital Bangui.

Hundreds of soldiers from neighboring counties including Congo and Cameroon have been arriving this week to support the government.

Nicolas Nzoyoum is the Cameroonian Ambassador to the CAR.

"The resolution of the head of state, that we have taken together, is why we are here for the implementation of that resolution, because peace must come back to the Central Africa Republic so that the population of this country are there to help themselves and to develop this country."

The United Nations have called for talks between the government and rebels.

Earlier, the rebels said they have halted their advance on the capital and agreed to start peace talks.

However, they are insisting that Bozize steps down.

The president says he will not leave before finishing his term in 2016.
