 An Australian lawyer caught up in a criminal investigation in Mongolia has been allowed to leave the country. It's understood Sarah Armstrong flew out of Mongolia yesterday afternoon. In October, she was prevented from leaving the country while authorities investigated a corruption case. Foreign Minister Bob Carl says Ms.Armstrong has been cleared of any involvement in the case.

 
Two volunteer firefighters in United States have been shot dead after being ambushed by a gunman. Two other firefighters were taken to hospital in a critical condition, the two died at the scene, a gunman was later found dead. The attack comes in the wake of the deadly school shooting that left 26 people dead in Connecticut.
 
Authorities in India has restricted the movement of people in the heart of the capital. Authorities were responding to lawlessness that erupted after a 23-year-old woman was beaten, raped and thrown out of a moving bus last week. The attack prompted demonstrators to demand the death penalty for the rapist and stricter laws for the safety of women.
 
And Pope Benedict the 16th is presiding over the Christmas Eve mass at Saint Peter's basilica in Vatican City. Ten thousand people have packed the basilica for the traditional ceremony, it's one of the most important masses in the Christian calendar.
