   阿利斯泰尔·布朗利:英国铁人三项运动员

Hi I'm Natalie and welcome to Talking Sport.

Today we’re hearing about Britain's best triathlete and learning the words 'pursue' and 'attempt'.
A triathlon involves three sports - swimming, cycling and running.
Alistair Brownlee is one of Britain's best hopes for Olympic success.
He is the current World Triathlon Champion and also won the title in 2009.
So what training does a triathlete need to do before a competition?
BBC reporter Kieron Fox has been to meet Alistair and the other British triathletes to see what training is involved.
Listen for the words 'pursue' and 'attempt'.
  Clip
Training starts early with a two-hour swim session where the British triathletes plough the lanes of the local swimming pool. After breakfast it's out to the lakes and the forest tracks for a one-hour run. That’s followed by a 100km bike ride, more than double the distance they would expect to do in competition.
Alistair Brownlee is Britain's best triathlete. Alistair gave up Cambridge University to pursue triathlon, becoming world champion at the first attempt.

In the clip we heard the word 'pursue'.
In this context it means to try to achieve something over a long period of time.
"Alistair gave up Cambridge University to pursue triathlon"
We also heard the word 'attempt'.
In this context attempt is used as a noun to mean the effort to do something difficult.
"… becoming world champion at the first attempt."
Well we have learnt the word 'pursue' and the noun form of the word 'attempt'. Now let's hear from some people in London using the verb form of the word attempt.
  Vox pops
I want to attempt to run the London Marathon.
I want to attempt to learn the local language when I go on holiday this month.
I want to attempt to pass my driving test this year.
