英闻天下——503 Spring Arts Event Celebrated in Pyongyang(在线收听

Amid the tensions on the Korean peninsula, people in Pyongyang are celebrating a series of April holidays, including the first anniversary of Kim Jong-un's appointment as head of the ruling Worker's Party.

A flower show, art performances and public dances are scheduled over the next few days in the lead-up to the nations' biggest holiday, the April 15th birthday of North Korea's first leader, Kim Il-Sung.

"April the 15th is the 'Day of the Sun', the anniversary of the birth of our great leader, Generalissimo Kim Il Sung. However tense the situation is, we will significantly mark the 'Day of the Sun'. During the fierce Fatherland Liberation war, the 'Day of the Sun', our great leader's birthday, was celebrated even during the toughest battles, so we will celebrate the 'Day of the Sun', even if war breaks out tomorrow."

No military parade or mass events are expected over the coming week.

So far there has been no news in North Korea's domestic media outlets about the possibility of a mid-range missile launch.
