TUNIS, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Germany is closely following the drafting of Tunisia's new constitution, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said Friday following a meeting with Tunisian Prime Minister Ali Laarayedh in Berlin.

Laarayedh is currently in Germany on a two day visit. Merkel said she was satisfied with Tunisia's transitional process which aims at laying the foundation of democracy and freedom. She pledged that Germany would help the North African country set up the rule of law as well as with economic development.
"Germany is also willing to help Tunisia in the sectors of good governance, professional training, renewable energies, information and civil society" she said, adding that 100 partnership programs will be set up in the near future.
Laarayedh said he was happy with the pace of economic and political cooperation between the two countries, with Germany's support to Tunisia in the economic, political and financial sectors. On the issue of religious fundamentalism, he said the country was determined to combat terrorist groups "without hesitation whatsoever".
Replying a question on the trial of 3 European Femen activists next week, the Tunisian Prime Minister said he was confident that the Tunisian judiciary system will offer them the attributes of a fair trial while preserving their rights.
