The White House is focusing on maintaining strong regional ties to counterbalance China’s power. 

 

3. The Pope is taking a down day in Brazil for rest and private meetings. The pontiff did attend a church service. Brazilian security forces are now blaming each other for the mob scene around Pope Francis upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro Monday.
