BEIRUT, Sept. 3 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese President Michel Suleiman expressed Tuesday his rejection of foreign military intervention in Syria, calling for reaching a political solution to the unrest in the neighboring country.

Suleiman made his remarks during a meeting with the ambassadors of the permanent members at the UN Security Council, UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly and representatives of the European Union and Arab League in Beirut, according to a statement by the presidential media office.
Suleiman thanked the ambassadors for their countries' support for Lebanon's stability, sovereignty and disassociation policy based on the Baabda Declaration, the statement said.
The declaration was adopted unanimously at a National Dialogue session, calling for disassociating Lebanon from the regional conflicts, particularly the crisis in neighboring Syria.
For their part, the diplomats stressed their countries' support for Lebanon, especially its army, in order to enable it to continue on preserving stability and security in the country and along its borders.
