The Northeast Chinese city of Harbin is hosting its 30th International Ice and Snow Festival. The city offers special winter experiences like nowhere else in China: an ice and snow world, snow sculpture park, ice lantern fair, and dog sledding. Our reporter Lin Nan went to a snow sculpture park to see what fun is taking shape.

Breathing-taking beauty in a world of white. Dozens of snow sculptures are attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors to Harbin.

“I’ve only seen snow sculptures on the Internet and TV. They look so stunning in real life!”

Now in its 30th year, the famous International Ice and Snow Festival has made Harbin’s reputation across the ocean.

“Snow is great! We are hoping to get to town to see the snow scoping…and it is really beautiful, we have never seen anything like this back home in Australia.”An Australian tourist said.

Get into the spirit of the festival with the fun and games. You can ride a motorcycle on a snowfield...

Taking pictures and catching moments which are far away from your usual life are a big part of the experience, especially when you are in front of a snow sculpture towering 27 meters high.

“I’ve wanted to come here since last winter. It’s like a wonderland. Playing in the snow is fun, but I can’t imagine myself living here in winter.”

Typical scenes of the countryside in Northeast China are recreated. Red lanterns and a stone mill hint at a prosperous 2014.

And for many, it’s an ideal place for making wishes and resolutions to start the New Year.
