3. US Secretary of State John Kerry is citing progress but also acknowledging tough obstacles as he engages in shuttle diplomacy in the Middle East. Kerry has been meeting separately with Palestinian President Mohammed Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He is trying to nudge both whom toward a peace deal. 
 
4. Former First Lady Barbara Bush has been discharged from Texas Hospital. She spent nearly a week being treated for pneumonia. She and former President George Herbert Walker Bush will celebrate their 69th wedding anniversary on Monday.
