 1. An arctic air mass plunges the east half of the United States into a deep freeze. Forecasters are calling for up to 40 inches of snow in Philadelphia and southern New England and up to a foot of snow in New York City. 

 
2. US Secretary of State, John Kerry arrives in Geneva for peace talks aimed at ending the crisis in Syria of a last minute resolution to a spat over Iran’s participation. The conference is the first face to face meeting between representatives of the Syrian government and the oppositions since the country crisis began in March 2011. 
 
3. More security concerns just ahead of the winter Olympics in Russia. Police in Sochi handled out leaflets warning about 3 potential suicide bombers. All are women, known as “Black Widows”. One is believed to be in the Olympic host city. 
 
4. Scandal-tested of New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie has taken the oath of office for his second term. Organizers cancelled Christie’s planned inaugural part at Ellis Island because of the winter storm.
