A broad(not sure),low-pressure trough is triggering showers and thunderstorms over the nation's north. Very hot northwestly winds are filtering into Queensland and the Northern Territory ahead of a trough. Gusty westerly winds in the wake of a cold front are driving showers over Tasmania and southern Victoria.

Looking around the country.

Queensland can expect very hot conditions in the west and southeast. Isolated showers and storms in north and east.

For New South Wales, very hot in the north. A cooler change in the east with isolated showers above the coast and ranges.

Mostly sunny throughout Victoria after early drizzle in the south.Warm in the north, cool in the south.

For Tasmania, showers in the western, central and southern parts with gustly westerly winds.

In South Australia, cool, southeasterly winds easing. Mostly sunny, hot in the north, mild in the south.

For Western Australia, hot in the north with isolated showers and storms. Windy and mostly sunny in the south.

And for the Northern Territory, isolated showers and storms in the north. Hot in the Top End, very hot elsewhere.
