A monsoon trough is triggering showers and storms across the tropics as a trough in the east is triggering isolated storms in western Queensland and showers in Tasmania and Victoria. Onshore winds are bringing showers to eastern Queensland.

Looking around the country.

Queensland can expect showers along much of the coastline. These will be heavy in the north with storms also possible. Hot in the west with thundery rain.

In New South Wales, a few showers and storms on the ranges. Quite warm in the west and south, but mild in the northeast of the state.

Victoria will be warm in the north, cooler in the south and mostly dry day's expected with a few showers possible above the ranges.

Gustly winds and light showers in the southwest of Tasmania. Mild temperatures throughout.

South Australia will be very hot in the north and west with isolated showers in the northeast.

Very hot across Western Australia as well. There'll be the odd storm in the west and far north.

And the Territory is expecting scattered showers and storms across the Top End. Hot in the east, very hot in the west.

Looking ahead to tomorrow's forecast for the capital cities: Brisbane will be partly cloudy, possible showers in Sydney, sunny in Canberra, early drizzle then a sunny afternoon for Melbourne, sunny in Hobart and Adelaide, very hot in Perth and Darwin could see a late storm.
