 Prime Minister Tony Abbott has taken his free trade message to the world. Mr. Abbott has addressed the World Economic Forum in Davos. He told delegates that the global economy needs more investment in infrastructure. He's also pushing for tax, banking and trade reforms ahead of the G-20 Summit to be held in Brisbane later this year.  

 
Violent protests in Ukraine have spread beyond the capital Kiev. The country's president is due to meet opposition leaders to discuss the deepening crisis. Two protesters were killed in clashes with police yesterday. 
 
The international envoy for Syria, Lakdhar Brahimi, is holding separate talks with rival delegations at the Syrian peace conference being held in Switzerland. The talks got off to a rocky start with a series of bitter exchanges. The warring parties are due to meet face-to-face in Geneva tomorrow.
 
Police in India have arrested 13 men in connection with a gang-rape in the state of West Bengal. The young woman says village elders ordered the attack when she was unable to pay a 400-dollar fine. The attack was punishment for having a relationship with a man from a different community. 
 
Pop star Justin Bieber has appeared in a Miami court, accused of drink driving. Police pulled over the singer when he was spotted drag racing. He's also been charged with resisting arrest without violence and having an expired license. The judge set bail at 2,500 dollars.
