Ukraine's newly appointed head of the navy has defected overnight, swearing allegiance to the Crimea region. Unions are calling on the federal government to grant Qantas a debt guarantee ahead of the Cabinet meetingin Canberra. Federal ministers will meet tonight to discuss possible assistance to the ailing airline. Prime Minister Tony Abbott has all but ruled out offering a debt guarantee.
