美国参议院确认萨拉布鲁姆拉斯金为财政部副部长

WASHINGTON, March 12 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. Senate has confirmed that Federal Reserve governor Sarah Bloom Raskin will serve as Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, U.S. Treasury Department said on Wednesday.

Raskin was nominated by U.S. President Barack Obama to be the Treasury's No. 2 figure in July. She will replace Neal Wolin, who stepped down in September after four years on the job.
"I am very pleased that the U.S. Senate showed broad support today in confirming Sarah Bloom Raskin as Deputy Secretary. The Treasury Department is gaining a proven and experienced leader who is dedicated to promoting economic prosperity, and enhancing business and consumer confidence," said Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew in a statement.
"I look forward to working with her to safeguard our financial system, drive growth, create jobs, and expand opportunity for all Americans," Lew said.
In 2010, Raskin was confirmed by the Senate to serve as a governor of the Board of the Fed, where she helped conduct the nation's monetary policy, regulate banking institutions, and implement Wall Street Reform. From 2007-2010, Raskin served as Commissioner of Financial Regulation for the State of Maryland.
As Commissioner, she regulated Maryland's financial institutions -- both banking and non-banking -- and navigated the state's response to the financial crisis, focusing on supporting community banks and protecting consumers.
She earlier served as Banking Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
Raskin received her B.A. in economics from Amherst College and her Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School.
