CCTV9英语新闻:菲律宾最悲惨的遗憾和深切的同情(在线收听

The Philippine government has expressed its regret and has extended condolences to the victims and their families in the 2010 Manila hostage crisis that left 8 Hong Kong tourists dead.

In a joint statement, the Hong Kong and Philippine government have also agreed to victims and their families’ demand for compensation. Still the statement misses the word "apology", which has been long been a demand from victims’ families.

Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Leung Chen Ying says Hong Kong will now drop its sanctions against the Philippines. The statement was issued as former Philippine President, now the mayor of Manila, Joseph Estrada is visiting Hong Kong.

A sacked Philippine police officer hijacked a bus with 21 Hong Kong tourists in August 2010. The 11-hour hostage crisis ended with eight Hong Kong tourists killed, along with the hostage taker, in a botched police raid.
