CCTV9英语新闻:天津菜市场图书馆开放(在线收听

And it's time to do some reading. April 23rd is the World Book Day. To mark this occasion we visit an unusual location for a book shop in Tianjin.

At first, Tianjin's Dagulu Market seems like any other. But here, shoppers can also settle in to the "New Citizen Book bar," where over 5,000 books in different categories are available.

"People usually listen to music, play with their phones, or surf the internet, but seldom read any books. Especially young people born in the 90s, they don’t even read books online. But I think it’s always good to learn through reading," vendor Yang Yu said.

Yang Yu is 20 years old. Since last year, when he came to the city to help with his father’s business, he has killed time by reading his phone when there are no customers.

Now, the book bar has become his new favorite spot.

"The market used to be very noisy after peak hours. But now, people come here and read quietly," Feng Dan, manager of the book bar, said.

According to the manager, word has gotten around about the book shop, and more and more people have been coming. Sometimes, there’s barely enough room to hold them all.
