BOGOTA, April 28 (Xinhua) -- Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos on Monday unveiled a new plan to make a case for his reelection bid for the upcoming May 25 general elections.

While presenting the plan, entitled "Peace is coming," at a ceremony, Santos, candidate of the ruling conservative National Unity coalition, promised to transform Colombia into one of Latin America's best-educated countries. He also vowed to enable more Colombians to become homeowners and to improve the country's healthcare system, as well as to expand industries and help Colombian entrepreneurs compete in the world market.
Santos also highlighted the progress his administration has made in various areas, including lowering unemployment, saying Colombians who vote to extend his mandate for another four years will be voting for a valuable opportunity to finally end the prolonged conflict and broker a peace deal.
The government has initiated peace negotiations with the Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (FARC) insurgent group to put an end to five decades of fighting between the rebels and the government forces. The 17-month-old talks have produced partial agreements on two of the five points on the agenda.
Santos will compete for the top post against four other candidates including Green Party candidate Enrique Penalosa, Democratic Center candidate Oscar Ivan Zuluaga.
